- Introduction
An electromagnetic flowmeter, often referred to as a “magmeter,” is a volumetric flow measurement device that operates based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction. It consists of a non-conductive liner and a pair of electrodes embedded in a flow tube, which is surrounded by electromagnetic coils that generate a magnetic field. As a conductive liquid—such as water, acids, or slurries—passes through this magnetic field, it induces a voltage that is directly proportional to the velocity of the fluid. Because the device has no moving parts and provides an unobstructed flow path, it is highly valued in industrial applications for its minimal pressure drop, low maintenance requirements, and ability to handle corrosive or abrasive media with high accuracy.
- Working Principles
The working principle of an electromagnetic flowmeter is based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction, which states that a conductor moving through a magnetic field produces an electrical signal. In this application, the conductive liquid serves as the conductor. The meter’s coils generate a constant magnetic field across the pipe’s cross-section; as the fluid flows through this field, it induces a voltage perpendicular to both the flow direction and the magnetic field. This induced voltage, detected by electrodes mounted on the pipe walls, is directly proportional to the average velocity of the liquid (V) according to the formula E = kBDV (where E is the voltage, B is magnetic field strength, and D is the distance between electrodes). A transmitter then processes this voltage to calculate the volumetric flow rate, offering a measurement that is independent of fluid density, viscosity, or pressure.
- Applications
Electromagnetic flowmeters are essential in industries that handle conductive liquids, especially where maintaining flow integrity and reducing maintenance are priorities. Their applications include:
Water and Wastewater Management
Chemical and Petrochemical Processing
Food and Beverage Production
Pulp and Paper Industry
Mining and Minerals
Pharmaceutical Industry
HVAC Systems

Electro Magnetic Flow Meter SSEAMFI
In stock
SKU:
SSEAMFI
The Schmierer SEA Electro Magnetic Flowmeter Range is based on Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction. When the conductive fluid flows through a magnetic field of the sensor, an electric voltage proportional to the volume flow is generated between the pair of electrodes and transmitted to the output device.
The flow and volume will be displayed at the electronic transmitter
No disturbance or restriction of flow
No moving parts - no wear and tear, virtually no pressure loss
Insensitive to fluid density, temperature, pressure, viscosity
Can be used for different types of conductive liquids (calibration with water required)

Electro Magnetic Flow Meter SSEAMFII
In stock
SKU:
SSEA MFII
The SSEAMFII series electromagnetic flowmeter is suitable for the conductive medium with a conductivity higher than 5μs / cm. It is composed of the sensor and converter, and the sensor consists of measuring tube, electrodes, excitation coils, iron core and shell and other components. After the traffic signal is amplified, processed and operated by converter, you can see the instantaneous flow, cumulative flow, output pulse, analog current and other signals for the measurement and control of fluid flow. It adopts the smart converter so that it not only has the measurement, display and other functions, but also supports the remote data transmission, wireless remote control, alarm and other functions.
◆ Excellent measurement repeatability and linearity
◆ Good reliability and anti-interference performance
◆ Good pressure resistance sealing ability
◆ Low pressure loss measurement tube
◆ High intelligentization
◆ Maintenance-free
