- Introduction
MANODAMP® is an innovative movement stabilization system designed to protect pressure gauges from the detrimental effects of mechanical vibration and rapid pressure pulsations without the need for traditional liquid filling. By utilizing a high-viscosity silicone grease or specialized damping fluid within the internal mechanism, ManoDamp creates targeted resistance that smoothes pointer movement, ensuring steady and accurate readings even in high-stress industrial environments. This dry-damping technology is particularly advantageous in applications where liquid leakage could contaminate processes, such as in the food and beverage or pharmaceutical industries, while also extending the instrument’s lifespan by reducing wear on the internal gears and linkage.
- Working Principles
The working principle of MANODAMP® centers on the application of viscous friction to the instrument’s movement to dampen external disturbances. Unlike traditional gauges that submerge the entire dial in glycerin, ManoDamp applies a high-viscosity damping medium—typically a specialized silicone grease—directly to the internal pinion and segment gear of the gauge movement. As the Bourdon tube or sensing element reacts to pressure changes, this grease creates a controlled resistance that absorbs high-frequency vibrations and rapid pressure spikes. This ensures that the pointer indicates the average pressure with a steady motion rather than oscillating wildly, effectively converting kinetic energy from vibrations into negligible thermal energy while preventing premature mechanical wear.
- Applications
MANODAMP® technology is specifically engineered for environments where mechanical vibration or pressure surges are present, but traditional liquid filling is undesirable.

Advantages
MANODAMP® Gauges have significant advantages to the “classical” liquid-filled gauge cases:
- No oil leakage problem - no contamination risk of process media
- No blurry gauge glass window in hot and humid climates
- No oil refilling maintenance required
- Easy maintenance for needle zero readjustment or change of movement parts
- Longer service life of gauges in rough environments
- Modern up to date construction fulfills the technical and hygienic requirements of chemical, petrochemical, food and pharmaceutical industries
- Experience with successful long service life in customer plants
We can deliver pointer dampening with Manodamp® movements in Schmierer Bourdon Tube and Diaphragm pressure gauges with 100 mm or 160 mm diameter with a pressure above 2.5 bar.
